About the masterclass

Since April 2022, three years after the fire that partially destroyed Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, Alliance Française de Singapour has paid tribute to those working to save this national symbol, through a series of exhibitions, talks, and screenings and workshops.

For the closing event of the programme, Alliance Française invites you to a masterclass with director Jean-Jacques Annaud, Former Operational Draft man for the Paris Fire Brigade René Dosne, and Fire Fighter Officer, Operational Draft man and Incident Commander for the Paris Fire Brigade Nicolas Dosne. An excellent opportunity to retrace the cinematographic work of an internationally well-known French Director and his collaboration with the Paris Fire Brigade on his last feature movie “Notre-Dame brûle”.

This event will be an opportunity to salute the firefighters who fought to save Notre-Dame de Paris, whom our special guests illustrated through movies or drawings.

The masterclass will be in French.

About Jean-Jacques Annaud

Jean-Jacques Annaud is a French film director, producer, and screenwriter, born on 1 October 1943 in the Paris region. He graduated from the IDHEC film school in Paris and made his first short film at 19. His career as a director was first recognized in 1977 when he won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film for Black and White in Colour (Noirs et Blanc en couleur). Four years later, he received the César for Best Film and Best Director for The War of Fire (La guerre du feu). He directed and wrote about twenty films during his career and has received many international awards. About René Dosne and Nicolas Dosne

In 1964, René Dosne became the first operational draughtsman for the Paris fire brigade. At 72 years of age, he intervenes in many disasters to sketch the buildings and help the rescue services to visualise the scene better, thanks to his peerless sense of observation. On April 15th 2019, he made live 3D drawings during the Notre-Dame fire to follow the intervention’s progress and helped the general staff in their fight against the flames.
His son Nicolas Dosne carries on the family tradition and is now Operational Draft man and Incident Commander for the Paris Fire Brigade.
