Singapore International Energy Week 2022
The SIEW 2022 theme was announced to a full room of guests and media at the annual global launch on 18th May 2022.
Themed “A Resilient and Sustainable Energy Future,” SIEW 2022 will discuss policies, frameworks, and best practices to accelerate the transition to a more resilient, greener and more inclusive energy future. It will also examine the opportunities and challenges as the region scales up investments and regional connectivity for a green economy. This was unveiled to over 200 onsite delegates and more than 1,000 global virtual attendees.
In his Opening Remarks, Mr Ngiam Shih Chun, Chief Executive of the Energy Market Authority of Singapore emphasised the need to manage emerging risks as energy systems become more digitalised, electrified, and diversified.
Key highlights of the SIEW 2022 Global Launch include:
- Presentation of IRENA’s World Energy Transition Outlook: Dr Binu Parthan, Head of Regions of IRENA, shared takeaways on how economies can see a boost from taking the 1.5°C Pathway from the World Energy Transition Outlook.
- Presentation of IEA’s Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2022: Mr Tim Gould, Chief Energy Economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA) outlined the significant energy resources of Southeast Asia and its market opportunities
- Panel discussion: Speakers from IEA, IRENA, Siemens Energy, Sembcorp Industries and SMBC debated on the opportunities and challenges presented in low carbon innovations and technologies to drive the energy transition in the region.
