Following the recommendations of the Inter-Ministry Committee (IMC) on the Regulation of Charities and Institutions of a Public Character (IPCs), the Charities Unit was officially transferred to the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on 1 September 2006.

ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC)
The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) is Singapore’s first facility dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and injured native wild animals.
The AWRC was officially opened on the 13th August 2009 by Dr. Lim Wee Kiak, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC.
The AWRC plays a vital role in ending the illegal wildlife trade in Singapore and the region both through its rescue efforts, and also by serving as a centre for education on this important issue.

European Union Centre in Singapore
The European Union Centre (EU Centre) in Singapore is now a Research Centre under the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the Nanyang Technological University.
The EU Centre was set up in response to a call for proposal by the European Union (EU) to establish the first European Union Centre in Southeast Asia to promote better understanding of the EU and raise its visibility in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) responded jointly to the call proposing a Joint Centre with equal participation by both NUS and NTU. This led to the “founding” of the EU Centre, a joint NTU-NUS entity in June 2008, co-funded by the EU, NTU and NUS.

Food From The Heart
Food from the Heart is a non-profit organisation that feeds the needy through its food distribution programme. It was established in February 2003 after Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer read a report in The Sunday Times about bakeries discarding their unsold bread. Stirred, they then decided to channel surplus food from bakeries to those in need. Food from the Heart started with 120 volunteers in 2003. As at the end of 2019, our volunteers multiplied to over 10,000, and together we reached 44,600 beneficiaries across Singapore.

Hope Villages Fund
A Little Hope Goes a Long Way
Hope Villages Fund was set up by a team of Singapore professionals in 2007 as a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to improving the lives of the underprivileged in Asia.
We were inspired through visits to Phum Trea – an impoverished village on the banks of the Mekong River in Cambodia supporting the villages with health care and education.
With contributions from well-wishers and assistance from volunteers, Hope Villages went on to undertake development projects to resettle a community of 116 families of more than 1,000 residents in Kampong Speu. Many of them were squatters, old job labourers and fishermen whose livelihood was threatened by the dwindling fish supply due to over-fishing and pollution.
We helped to build homes, introduce filtration systems for drinking water, education and supporting infrastructures like roads, and as well as sustainable farming and livelihood for the villagers.
Many now have their own homes and farms. We continue to support the rest of the families with houses, a sustainable livelihood and education for their children.

ReadAble
Since January 2014, ReadAble has been running weekly reading and language arts classes for children ages 2 to 15 in a neighbourhood in the Chin Swee area. We started out teaching in children’s homes, but have grown to occupy classrooms in the Residents’ Committee Centre.
We teach a phonics-based curriculum to our earliest readers and deliver a programme which complements the primary school syllabus for those who have mastered the basics of reading. We use drama, movement and play to draw out a love for reading, build self-confidence, and encourage creativity.

Southeast Asian Ceramic Society (SEACS)
Formed in 1969, the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society’s purpose is to widen appreciation and acquire knowledge of the ceramic art of China and countries adjacent to China, especially those of Southeast Asia. To pursue this aim, local members meet for periodic discussion, to hear talks by experts, and to study and compare ‘pots’.
The Society organized its inaugural Exhibition at the University Art Museum, Singapore in 1971. This landmark exhibition featured 350 examples of Khmer, Annamese, and early Thai pottery, drawn largely from the university’s collection built by its curator, William Willetts. A substantial number of pieces also came from the collections of Helen Ling, the society’s first president, Don Sinclair, and other members of the first council.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a registered animal welfare charity with IPC status.
The SPCA is not a government agency. We rely on donations from our supporters to continue our important role as animal protector. Over $3,200,000 annually is required to carry out our animal welfare work.
We receive around 150 pets and stray animals every month. This figure includes lost dogs which are all checked for microchips and advertised in the press in an effort to locate their owners.

Willing Hearts
We are a secular, non-denominational and non-affiliated charity.
A secular, non-affiliated charity, Willing Hearts is wholly run by volunteers, apart from a handful of staff. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 6,500 daily meals to over 40 locations island-wide, 365 days a year.
